If any of you were put off by last week’s action-packed Chappie trailer, then maybe this more character-driven trailer is more your speed. The slower-paced trailer made for UK audiences (big surprise) focuses on Dev Patel’s scientist character Deon Wilson, and Hugh Jackman’s military character Vincent Moore just as much as it does (if not more than) the titular robot (played by Sharlto Copley). It appears one of the main conflicts in the film stems from Wilson and Moore’s opposing views on artificial intelligence – the scientist wants machines to become more humanlike, while the soldier wants them to be tools to protect humans. We all so get a few more looks at Chappie’s parent-figures, street thugs Ninja and Yolandi Visser (played by rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser).
