Universal dropped a bombshell yesterday by announcing that they will reboot their classic movie tentpole Twister, with Top Gun:Maverick director Joseph Kosinski set to help the project. Frank Marshall will produce the film and the studio is currently looking at writers to pen the script.
The original 1996 film starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as storm chasers on the brink of divorce as they find themselves in the path of a historic tornado. The film was a massive box office success for the studio, raking in over 494 million dollars worldwide and pioneering new, groundbreaking special effects. The original film was helmed by Jan De Boot, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer, and acclaimed novelist Michael Crichton penning the script.
Plot details on the new film are vague at the moment, especially since the project doesn’t have a script, but it is expected to feature a mostly new plot and characters. It certainly is in good hands with Kosinski, as the director has shown skill with high budget studio projects, having previously directing Tron: Legacy and Oblivion.
