This weekend saw a brand new film in the world of Middle Earth in the form of The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim. And with the release comes many details for longtime fans to discover and discuss, but one has stuck out to many. Longtime fans of Lord Of The Rings will make the connection between Helm Hammerhand, one of the protagonists of the film, and the king of Rohan during the trilogy, Théoden, one of Bernard Hill’s many iconic roles. Unfortunately, Hill passed away earlier this year on May 5th, at the age of 79.
Given the connection from his past role to the topic of this film, the creators of War For The Rohirrim opted to dedicate the film to Hill. SlashFilm noted that the dedication itself said, “In memory of our beloved king of Rohan.”
War Of The Rohirrim takes place roughly 200 years before Peter Jackson’s iconic trilogy, and tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, one of the old kings of the realm of Rohan. When an old ally becomes an unexpected threat, Helm and his family are forced to abandon their home for the safety of the Hornburg, where they must make a final stand to protect the future of Rohan.
War Of The Rohirrim features the voice cast of Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, and Miranda Otto, among other talents.
War Of The Rohirrim is now playing in theaters.
