According to a report by Deadline, Paramount now has a completed script for the rumored Transformers spin-off film, Bumblebee, meaning they are one step closer to getting the film into production. Christina Hodson is the writer responsible for cracking the formula for the upcoming spin-off.
The film will feature the beloved character Bumblebee of the Transformers series, but has yet to disclose any plot details.
Bumblebee is rumored to be the replacement of Transformers 6, presumably to bring new life in the story and expand the Transformers universe. Michael Bay assembled a writers room in summer of 2015, and the group has been hard at work over the last year writing and pitching ideas. Meanwhile, the fifth installment in the Transformers franchise, Transformers 5, is being directed again by Michael Bay and written by Ken Nolan and Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Transformers 5 is set to be released next summer on June 23, 2017.
No director or cast members have been attached to Bumblebee yet, but it can be presumed that Michael Bay is producing, if not directing.
Writer Christina Hodson is proving to be a writing talent to be reckoned with in Hollywood. In the last five years she has had three scripts on the ‘Black List’ (Hollywood’s list of best unproduced screenplays), and has emerged as a strong female voice in the superhero and sci-fi genres, which are typically dominated by males.
Hodson’s newest film Shut In starring Naomi Watts had a limited release this week, and her next film Unforgettable starring Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl will be released in April 2017. Hodson will also be writing the script for upcoming Suicide Squard spin-off, a Harley Quinn-centered movie that will feature many of the female characters of the DC universe.
Bumblebee is set to be released June 8, 2018.
