Denzel Washington and Spike Lee are teaming up for a new movie once again. A trailer for their new film, Highest 2 Lowest, has just been released. 

Highest 2 Lowest follows a music icon who is forced to deal with a ransom plot after a criminal kidnaps someone close to him. Denzel Washington leads the film, with a supporting cast rounded out by Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Dean Winters, and music stars A$AP Rocky and Ice Spice.

As stated earlier, this is not the first time Washington and Lee have worked together. While both have a robust resumé, their past collaboration, 1992’s Malcolm X remains a stand out for both the actor and the director. It would eventually go on to be nominated for several Academy Awards the year after its debut, even including a Best Actor nomination for Washington. 

Hollywood Reporter notes that this film is actually a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s classic, High And Low. With a plethora of films to his credit, Kurosawa’s films have been reimagined several times before, most notably Seven Samurai, and have been cited as inspiration for countless projects. 

Although the similarities of the plot between Highest 2 Lowest and High And Low apparent, it’s unclear just how similar both films will wind up being in the end.
