The first action-filled teaser trailer for Insurgent has finally hit the web. Four months ahead of its March 20, 2015 theatrical release, Lionsgate gives us a look at The Divergent Series’ second installment.
The third and fourth installments in the series, Allegiant parts 1 and 2, will be released in March, 2016 and March, 2017, respectively.
Based off of Veronica Roth’s popular dystopian novels of a post-apocalyptic Chicago, and starring Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars) and Theo James (Underworld: Awakening), the story continues the fight of Tris (Woodley) and her rebellion against the oppressive government controlling her people.
The film will be released in both 3-D and 2-D formats, and was directed by Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D, Flightplan). The first installment, Divergent (2014), which was not released in 3-D and grossed nearly $300 million worldwide, was directed by Neil Burger (Limitless). Although the movie received positive reviews from audiences and fans of the book, it failed to excite the critics.
According to James, “You have to honor the material for the first film because you have a fan base, but when you come to the second one, if you’ve done well with the first movie, you now have the ability to think outside the box. And I think as long as you have good character progression, which is essentially Four and Tris, the anchors of the film, if you have that stuff right, then if you lose some kind of threads of different plotlines, it shouldn’t matter.”
The one-minute teaser focuses on Shailene Woodley’s Tris trying to save her mother (Ashley Judd) by jumping off of several destroyed buildings. “The world will never be the same,” the trailer warns.
