The trailer for the comedy, Yesterday, has been released. Directed by Danny Boyle, the film follows a musician named Jack, played by Himesh Patel, who is looking for his big break. After a biking accident, he recovers consciousness in a world that does not know The Beatles. Jack begins to sing the Beatles’ songs, leading to everyone believing these are his original compositions.
Jack lands straight into stardom with people impressed by how quickly he can pen a hit song. He ends up selling out concerts and appearing on talk shows. His fame, however, comes at a cost. Jack is constantly followed by obsessed fans, reminiscent of Beatlemania, and develops strain in his relationship. The trailer also features a moment of tension when two men claim ownership of the songs Jack sings.
Hit Beatles songs such as “Yesterday”, “Hey Jude”, and “Let it Be” are heard in the trailer. Lily James, Kate McKinnon, and Ed Sheeran round out the cast for the film. This will be Sheeran’s first major film debut. James recently played the younger version of Donna Sheridan in the sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
See Yesterday in theaters on June 28.
