With the release of a new SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water trailer, everyone’s favorite sponge is joining us on land! The 3D sequel to The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) welcomes the television show’s characters back to the big screen. With series writer and executive producer, Paul Tibbitt directing, expect the same brand of humor you get from the show.
In this sequel, SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and his motley crew must stop pirates from capturing the last page of a mystical book. When SpongeBob and his undersea gang of Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke), Squidward (Roger Bumpass), Sandy (Carolyn Lawrence), Plankton (Mr. Lawrence), and Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) rise above the sea, they become a team of superheroes.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water scribes, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are no newcomers to animated franchises, having worked on Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and Kung Fu Panda 2. The movie is co-produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies. In fact, this movie marks the first film that Paramount Animation will produce.
The trailer (below) features Antonio Banderas (The Expendables 3) as the malicious pirate, Alameda Jack.
SpongeBob’s journey above and beyond his pineapple under the sea begins February 6, 2015.
