Netflix has dropped the first official trailer for its upcoming animation film The Willoughbys, produced by BRON Animation. It will be released on April 22 and is directed by Kris Pearn, who also helmed Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2, a sequel to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s adaptation of the beloved children’s novel. The movie is based on Lois Lowry’s book of the same name.
Ricky Gervais voices the narrator cat in this vibrantly colorful animated film, telling the audience that “All the Willoughby children ever wanted was to have a normal family.” The Willoughby children include Jane (Cara), her brother Tim (Forte) and the twins Barnaby A and Barnaby B, who long for a normal, loving family. Convinced that they are better off raising themselves, the children hatch an elaborate, sneaky plan to send their selfish parents (Short and Krakowski) on vacation, then embark on their own high-flying adventure with the guide of an eccentric nanny (Rudolph). Family Services later attempt to take the children after learning that they are living without their parents, so the nanny and the children set out on the most crazy road trip yet, while discovering the true meaning of family. When Tim says “All I wanted was a great family” during their adventure, the nanny responds, “You have a great family. They need you and you need them.”
The animated picture also features the voices of Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski and Séan Cullen. Watch the trailer below:
