Hercules was the first superhero, so it’s an easy task for him to be headlining in two feature films bowing in 2014. The first, action-fantasy film, Hercules: The Legend Begins, starring Twilight star Kellan Lutz, will debut in March and covers the original story of the hero. The second, Hercules: The Thracian Wars debuts July 25, 2014, starring Dwayne Johnson, is an original story of the years after Hercules has proven his power and has become a mercenary for hire.
Hercules: The Legend Begins showed a glimpse of the trailer at the New York City 2013 Comic Con with positive feedback. It’s the classic hero’s story (with plenty of combat) starting as a legend in Greece around 1200 BC. A wayward Queen can not resist the charms of the god Zeus, and together they have a child – Hercules. Hercules grows up not knowing his true identity or his greater life’s purpose, that one day he will overthrow the reigning tyrant King and restore peace to his kingdom. Hercules has only one thought, that he is in love with Princess Hebe, whose hand is promised in marriage to his own brother.
Director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, The Covenant) wrote the script with co-scribe Daniel Giat. Model Gaia Weiss makes her feature film debut as Hebe. Scott Adkins (Expendables 2), Liam Garrigan (The Pillars of the Earth, Raw), and Roxanne McKee (Lip Service) also star.
Hercules: The Legend Begins is a Millennium Films production.
