Darren Arronofsky is lifting the curtain on his newest film. The first trailer for Caught Stealing has just debuted online.
Arronofsky will be producing the film as well as directing. Arronofsky has a multitude of other acclaimed films to his name, including projects such as mother!, Requiem For A Dream, and Black Swan, which won Natalie Portman the Oscar for Best Actress back in 2011.
His most recent feature, The Whale, saw Brendan Fraser play a reclusive obese teacher, who tries to reconnect with his daughter as he’s facing the final days of his life. Much like Black Swan, the film saw several Oscar nominations, but the most notable of those was that of Best Actor for Fraser. He would go on to win the Oscar as well, marking the first Academy Award in his career.
Caught Stealing follows a burnt-out baseball player turned bartender as he unknowingly gets in over his head with the criminal underworld. After agreeing to house sit for a friend of his, several gangsters show up to the house to find him there. After narrowly escaping, his friend forces him into the job he’s trying to pull off before he even has a choice, leaving him to adapt quickly to the demands of this new environment.
Austin Butler takes center stage as the lead role, with the trailer showing him being forced to think quickly or pay for it with his life. Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, and many others fill out the supporting cast.
Caught Stealing hits theaters August 29th. Check out the trailer below.
