The 1988 comedy that helped launched Eddie Murphy’s comedic movie career as a comedy is seeing a comeback with Coming 2 America. Murphy and many of the original film’s stars like James Earl Jones will be returning for the sequel along with some new big names, such as Wesley Snipes and Leslie Jones. Now, according to Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has added one more big name to the comedic sequel.
30 Rock star Tracy Morgan will be appearing in Coming 2 America as a hustler named Reem, the brother of Leslie Jones’ character in the film. Jones will be playing a woman named Lavelle, who Akeem (Eddie Murphy) had a one night stand with and resulted in an unplanned pregnancy. Akeem returns to America to meet his long lost son, not only for himself but to fulfill he’s father dying wish of meeting the new prince.
Morgan’s addition to the film is very fitting. He’s become of the most recognized black comedians in entertainment for his roles in 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, the latter of which was also was a starting point for Murphy’s early career. Morgan still has a strong presence on television with his role in the TBS comedy The Last O.G., as well as a few recent film roles under his belt, the most recent being What Men Want. With a role in Coming 2 America, Morgan’s silver screen presence will likely become even greater.
Coming 2 America is set for release on December 18th 2020.
