Tony Gilroy, the writer of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has finally spoken up about the probability that fans can expect an alternative cut of the film. Fans have speculated since the movie’s initial release that there was something they weren’t being shown. In trailers for the film, there were shots seen that were not in the movie at all, leaving audiences to wonder why they were removed.
The Hollywood Reporter got an answer out of Gilroy discussing a possible “different cut” of Rogue One. He responded, “Uh, no. That was the absolute best possible version you could ever have. Oh my God. No. No.” When asked to elaborate, he said, “I’m not going to go into any more detail. But the more authority that you hear people talk about online about what happened on that movie, the less they know. That’s all that needs to be said. Maybe someday… but no. That’s the absolute best version of that movie that you could possibly imagine in the time that was given.”
Comicbook’s article on the subject mentions the trailer released for Rogue One and how it appears that scenes were reworked rather than alternate takes. They say footage of Felicity Jones’s character “running across the beaches of Scarif with the Death Star plans in her hands… or having a TIE Fighter emerge in front of her while she crossed scaffolding.”
It does not appear that we’ll be getting a different cut of Rogue One anytime soon. But fans and audiences are hoping that we may someday see a different version of the film.
