Spider-Man 3‘s title announcement has come in three different forms. Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon have all posted on their respective instagrams with three different titles, each with different behind the scenes photo. Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Home Slice, and Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker were the three titles they posted. Regardless, it would seem that the Spider-Man title will keep the “home” motif that has been established in the previous Sony and Marvel films.
This could give more credit to the reports that have all but been confirmed by Marvel and Sony that Tom Holland will unite with two other Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. However, it also might be a red herring and serve to get fans talking about the film.
“Home slice” could refer to the popular pizza memes with Maguire’s Spider-Man and home-wrecker could refer to Garfield’s wrecked home following Gwen Stacey’s death in his second film. Also home-wrecker could refer to Maguire’s Spider-Man as well, who literally had MJ leave John Jameson at the alter. Either way it is safe to assume “phone home” refers to Holland’s Spider-Man.
Or all of this could be wrong and none of the previous Spidermen are in the film. Maybe this will be a nice stand alone Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, wrapping up his trilogy of high school films, finding a relationship with MJ to be more difficult than he thought, and moving onto the next stage of his three trilogy arc. Or maybe every Marvel character ever will be reprising their role. Even the original live-action Spider-Man, Nicholas Hammond, will make a cameo.
Either way the MCU will hopefully be back in full force when Spider-Man 3 swings into December 17,2021.
