Universal has signed Tom Holland to star in and produce a film adaptation of The Partner by John Grisham. Graham Moore (The Imitation Game, The Outfit) will be penning the script.
John Grisham has multiple novels that have already been adapted into the film medium. Primarily focused on legal dramas, some of his most famous adaptations include The Firm, A Time to Kill, The Rainmaker, and The Client. He also wrote the novel Skipping Christmas, which was later adapted into Christmas with the Kranks. However, most of these films were released in the 90s and early 2000s, so Tom Holland will have to prove that there is still a market for a Grisham adaptation in the 2020s.
Tom Holland is coming off a year-long break from acting. After starring in the TV miniseries The Crowded Room in 2023 and Uncharted in 2022, the actor had no projects for the entirety of last year. Holland is expected to return as Peter Parker in multiple projects in the coming years. He is already confirmed for a fourth Spider-Man film following Spider-Man: No Way Home. Additionally, he is expected to appear in some capacity in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which are being helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Holland was also recently cast in Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of The Odyssey. The monstrous cast also features Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o and Matt Damon.
The Partner does not yet have a director or release window, so do not expect to see the film release for the next couple years.
