Brother-directing duo, the Russo Brothers, recently enlisted a face familiar to them in their upcoming project. The brothers, known mainly for their directing of two of the Captain America films as well as the extremely popular and successful Avengers: Infinity War, have been in talks with Tom Holland for him to star in their upcoming feature, Cherry. It will be an adaptation of the 2018 debut novel of the same name by the American author, Nico Walker.
The original novel, mirroring actual events in Walker’s life, follows a veteran who returns to the US from deployment in Iraq during the midst of the US opioid epidemic. The unnamed character becomes a drug addict and a bank robber, to boot. As Walker was imprisoned since 2013 for robbing banks, it was at first difficult for the Russo brothers to communicate with the author to try and acquire filming rights to the novel.
AGBO, the studio of the brotherly duo, was able to attain the rights for filmmaking last August. Holland, who portrayed Peter Parker in the Russo Brothers’ Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War (and continuing such in Avengers: Endgame), is being considered for the lead role in Cherry. The film is supposedly set to shoot sometime this summer. The news was originally reported by Variety.
