Spoilers for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ below:
Despite being the third actor to play Spider-Man in a live-action film, Tom Holland has more than proven his worth as the web-slinger. However, it’s also become something of a reoccurring joke that he can’t hold a secret about the MCU while on press tours. Thus, the Spider-Man: Homecoming star’s actions this weekend may or may not be a studio in-joke concerning his role in a post-Infinity War world.
Earlier this weekend at the Ace Comic Con in Seattle, Holland posted a video to Instagram in which he apologized for “no real revelations” being discussed about his upcoming film. However, despite the lack of announcements, he did show viewers the script on his iPad, revealing the title to be Spider-Man: Far From Home. Holland also joked about the absurdity of his character even having a sequel since Thanos wiped him, along with half the universe, out of existence.
Apart from a statement by Kevin Feige that Spidey will “spend some time in other parts of the globe,” Far From Home’s only other major detail is the casting of Jake Gyllenhall as Mysterio. Homecoming director John Watts is returning to direct the film, based on a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film will premiere on July 5, 2019 and directly follow the events of the currently untitled Avengers 4.
