According to Deadline, Warner Brothers is trying to acquire the Frank Miller (The Matrix) and Geof Darrow comic book, Hard Boiled. The studio is already has Free Fire‘s Ben Wheatly to adapt and direct the film. Hard Boiled will be co-produced by Solipsist Films (Sin City) and Hollywood Gang (300), along with Stephen L’Heureux, Bernie Goldmann and Gianni Nunnari.
Hard Boiled is 1990s comic which focuses on the insurance investigator Carl Seltz. He learns that he is really a homicidal cyborg tax collector named Nixon. A fellow cyborg lets him know that there is hope for robots to escape their life of servitude.
Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and The Night Manager) is currently in talks to lead the film. He and Wheatley have previously worked together on 2015’s High-Rise. Hiddleston recently wrapped on Thor: Ragnarok and will next be seen in Kong: Skull Island, starring opposite Brie Larson.
Wheatley’s Free Fire will be in theaters March 17, 2017.
