Late this morning, Sony Marvel actor Tom Hardy posted on Instagram a behind-the-scenes video from a previous Venom movie with a caption announcing that Venom 3 has entered pre-production.
The British actor debuted as the beloved antihero in 2018’s Venom, playing journalist Eddie Brock and giving voice to the symbiote he becomes host to. The duality – and hilarity – of watching Hardy talk to himself had fans quickly warming to the dynamic and led the first two films to box office success. Venom grossed $856 million in the domestic and international markets in 2018, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage earned $502 million worldwide in 2021.
At the end of Let There Be Carnage, we saw Eddie and Venom enjoying a duly earned vacation, which was soon interrupted by some multiverse shenanigans. The anticipation to see Eddie Brock and Venom return to screens exploded after their cameo in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home, where, after returning to his universe, Brock unwittingly left a part of the Venom symbiote behind.
At last year’s CinemaCon panel, Sony Pictures officially announced that Venom 3 was a guarantee, marking the continued expansion of Sony’s Spiderverse alongside other upcoming projects: Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, and El Muerto starring singer Bad Bunny. No details have been announced for the third film since its confirmation.
Hardy’s announcement that the film has entered pre-production suggests that the third Venom installment could begin filming this year.
