In Legend, Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road) plays Reggie Kray, the “Gangster Prince of the East End.” Hardy also plays Reggie’s twin brother Ronnie, a “one-man mob.” The newest trailer for Brian Helgeland’s (co-writer of L.A. Confidential) upcoming crime flick highlights how differently Hardy is playing each of these real-life gangster twins. The bespectacled Ronnie is coarse, mumbling, with a constant scowl plastered on his face, while Reggie calm, well-spoken, but still willing to brawl with the best of them. The trailer also hints at a potential conflict in the film: Reggie is urged by his criminal cohorts to put a permanent end to Ronnie’s violent tendencies.
Besides a double-dose of Hardy, the film also features Emily Browning (God Help the Girl) as Reggie’s wife Frances, and Christopher Eccleston (the 9th Doctor of Doctor Who) as Leonard “Nipper” Read, a detective on a mission to bring down the Krays’ criminal empire. Legend is set to be released in American theaters October 2, 2015.
