As the search for a new James Bond has already begun, fans and even celebrities have weighed in as to who they believe would best fit the role (IndieWire). The topic has only grown more popular since it was announced that the casting director was looking for older and more experienced actors.
In an interview with the BBC, Tom Hanks casually mentioned that he would be really interested to Idris Elba (a fan favorite) as the agent. He stated: “Understand this… James Bond has a licence [sic] to kill. I would issue that licence [sic] to Idris Elba just based on the work that I’ve seen him do.”
On the topic of playing the character, Idris Elba himself has noted in the past that the job does not necessarily call to him. As a guest for The Shop podcast alongside Drew Barrymore and Kyrie Irving, Elba said, “It is not a goal for my career… I don’t think that, you know, playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals. It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation. I’m not gonna lie, every corner of the world I go, and I’m talking about different cultures, they always go ‘Bond,’ and I feel it is beyond me at this junction. It’s beyond me. You know, it’s not a question of, should I, do I, will I. It is what the will of the nation dictates sometimes.”
