As the star of the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, Timothée Chalamet will be giving a singing performance for the part (The Hollywood Reporter). The director of the biopic, James Mangold, provided an interview with Collider at the Star Wars Celebration in London, where he was promoting an upcoming Star Wars film. When Mangold was asked if Chalamet would sing, he replied, “Of course!”
He went on to discuss how the biopic caught his interest as an artist: “It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years — first being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and then, of course, kind of outrunning them at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief… It’s such an interesting true story and about such an interesting moment in the American scene.”
The biopic entitled A Complete Unknown is based on the book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald and a script from Jay Cocks. Mangold also mentioned that the film is expected to begin in August.
While the news of Chalamet singing for a role sounds new, he reportedly has a few musical numbers in his upcoming film Wonka.
