According to Deadline, Tiffany Haddish has just signed on to star in Tyler Perry’s next film The List, which is slated to hit theaters on November 2, 2018. In the film, she will star alongside Tika Sumpter (Southside With You) and Omari Hardwick (Power). Perry wrote the script and will be directing and producing as well.
Haddish blew up last year after being in the summer comedy Girls Trip. Starring alongside established comedic stars such as Regina Hall and Queen Latifah, Haddish was in a league of her own and now she’s reaping the benefits. She made history on SNL by becoming the first black female stand-up comic to host the show and she got a TV special on Showtime for her stand-up. She even earned a spot presenting at the Oscars this past Sunday where she and Maya Rudolph stole the show.
Perry’s The List will be a rare venture away from his Madea franchise, not counting the shows he does on OWN, but he’s not done with no-nonsense grandma just yet – A Madea Family Funeral is also set to release later this year. The List, however, looks to be within the same realm of comedy.
The logline goes as follows: A woman (Haddish) gets released from prison and reunites with her sister (Sumpter), who discovers she’s in an online relationship with a man that may be “catfishing” her.
Haddish as an ex-convict is enough have most people sold on the project. With the film set to release this year, we should be expecting a trailer sometime soon. In the meantime, there’s plenty of Tiffany Haddish stand-up to binge watch on YouTube.
