With 2024’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) right around the corner, more films are being selected to premiere at this year’s festival. The latest addition is On Swift Horses, based on the novel by Shannon Pufahl. This romantic drama stars Will Poulter (The Maze Runner) as Lee and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People, Where the Crawdads Sing) as his wife, Muriel. Jacob Elordi, who plays Julius, will also star in another TIFF premiere, Oh, Canada.
IndieWire describes the book and its adaptation: “The couple’s stability is upended by the arrival of Lee’s charismatic younger brother, Julius, who is a wayward gambler with a secret. A dangerous love triangle is quickly formed, as the three vow to start a new life together in California, but their bid for the American Dream is blown apart when Julius disappears and heads for Las Vegas instead. Muriel embarks on a secret life of her own, gambling on racehorses and discovering a love she never thought possible.”
On Swift Horses is produced by Peter Spears (Call Me by Your Name, Nomadland, Bones and All) with Daniel Minahan (Game of Thrones, House of Cards) directing the script penned by Bryce Kass (Lizzie).
