WARNING This article contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*.
Marvel’s latest installment, Thunderbolts* has arrived, and it is a nice addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film has a mid and post-credit scene. The first one is on the silly side, while the second one will hold a lot of stake for the future of the MCU meaning spoliers for anyone that hasn’t seen the film yet.
The mid-credit scene follows David Harbour’s Red Guardian, looking cleaner, healthier, and happier in a grocery store. A woman is deciding which cereal to buy. The Wheaties box has the Thunderbolts aka The New Avengers on the front. Red Guardian holds the box to his face hoping the woman ill recognize he is on the cover, but instead gets weirded out. This scene has no impact on the future, just a silly scene that reflects the fun of the movie.
The second post-credits scene is where the juicy stuff is. The Thunderbolts/New Avengers appear discussing the news that Sam Wilson is suing the team for The Avengers name. Red Guardian proposes the idea to change the “S” to a “Z” to make it “The Avengerz,” but that is quickly dismissed. Their discussion is interrupted when their scanner discovers a spaceship entering the universe with the Fantastic Four’s logo.
It is still unclear if this sets up the Fantastic Four: First Steps film, as it could be the end of the film, or the beginning of Avengers: Doomsday. It is pretty much all but confirmed now that the Fantastic Four’s home universe will be destroyed, leading them to find the MCU universe, designated Earth-616 by Christine in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The asterisk in the title finally makes sense now though, as the Thunderbolts was a sort of temporary title.
