Thomas Mann is joining the Disney’s live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp as Jim Dear, Lady’s human owner.
The majority of the cast will play CGI characters, with Tessa Thompson playing Lady and Justin Theroux voicing the Tramp, just like in The Jungle Book and Beauty and The Beast, yet Kiersey Clemons, who will be playing Jim Dear’s wife, and Mann will embody the few live-action roles.
Lady and the Tramp is about a domestically-raised American Cocker Spaniel named Lady who lives happily with an upper-middle-class family but is set astray when the family has a baby. She meets a mongrel known as the Tramp on the streets, and after going on a journey with him, they eventually fall in love with each other.
Dear is the human owner who decides to get rid off Lady after having a baby.
The director of the film is Charlie Bean, the filmmaker of The Lego Ninjago Movie. The Lady and the Tramp remake is expected to make its debut on Disney’s upcoming digital streaming service, which is set to launch in 2019. Andrew Bujalski is the screenwriter.
