Theaters Set To Show Extended Cuts Of ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ In June

One ring to rule them all, and three days to show them all. Peter Jackson’s iconic film trilogy, The Lord Of The Rings, is journeying back to theaters this June.

The Lord Of The Rings tells the story of young hobbit Frodo Baggins, who, after inheriting a magic ring from his uncle, learns that it’s a power beyond his comprehension, forged by the dark lord Sauron. To stop Sauron from getting the ring back, Frodo, with the aid of his newfound friends, sets out to destroy it and bring peace back to Middle Earth.

Kicking off in 2001 with Fellowship Of The Ring, Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novels became critical and box office darlings. The rerelease of the trilogy comes in the wake of last year’s 20th anniversary of the trilogy’s conclusion, Return Of The King.

Return Of The King went on to make film history after its release. It tied with Ben-Hur and Titanic to become one of three movies with the most Academy Awards with 11 Oscars. It also won all 11 categories that it was nominated for, including Best Picture.

It’s not just the original versions returning to theaters, as Hollywood Reporter points out. The extended versions of all 3 of the films will be playing, using the 4K upscale that was done for home release back in 2020.

The trilogy kicks off on June 8th with Fellowship Of The Ring. The Two Towers will play on June 9th. The trilogy will be concluded on June 10th with Return Of The King,
