In the new trailer for Sara Colangelo‘s The Kindergarten Teacher, we see one of Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s best performances to date.
In the film, Gyllenhaal plays a mousy and seemingly type-A kindergarten teacher. Her harmless demeanor and relatively timid voice sets us up to believe that she couldn’t hurt a fly, and that she certainly would never be the person one would expect to put any of her students in danger. After she learns of one particular student’s gift for poetry and the spoken word, though, things take a turn for the worse.
As Gyllenhaal seems to down-spiral deeper and deeper into the illusion that little Jimmy is the next Mozart, she goes to greater and greater lengths in order for him to present his gift to the world. Unfortunately, her actions turn to something darker when she kidnaps him from a play yard and tries to connect him to her thriving fever dream.
Other actors in the upcoming Netflix film include Rosa Salazar, Gael Garcia Bernal, Michael Chernus, and Ajay Naidu.
The film already has rave reviews and awards from the renowned Sundance , so we are excited to see it for ourselves.
The Kindergarten Teacher is set for release on Netflix on October 12, 2018.
