With the series three seasons in, incessant chatter about a ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ movie in the works had been circulating the internet and left fans of the show eager to learn when it is coming. After it was initially announced back in September 2025 after the Season 3 finale, fans shared anticipations of holiday release for the film but no such luck has occurred. On December 2, the popular show’s creator, Jenny Han spoke at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit regarding the topic – she revealed that although this project is progressing, filming has not yet begun but is still in the early development stages. She further explained that there simply was no time available for them to film the movie due to the time crunch that resulted from the final season’s production concluding a month prior to its premiere, but confirmed that she had finished writing its script.
Jenny then spoke on the famous Easter eggs scattered throughout the seasons that fans love, stating that they’re not really clues, they’re “just sort of building up the story and doing maybe narrative foreshadowing” from all 3 seasons. She also said that music choice aids to further build the imagery and divulged that she personally penned letter to Taylor Swift asking for permission to use her music, voicing how much it would mean to her and fans of the show. The feeling was mutually stated by the singer earlier in the year during an interview, where she also expressed her love for the series. The Creator/Director of this much-anticipated movie teased that “another big milestone” is coming for protagonist, Belly – but no further details are given as to not spoil its final conclusion and keep it under wraps, so much that co-stars, Lola Tung and Chris Briney have both claimed to know nothing about the project. Only time will tell how the story between Belly, Jeremiah and Conrad plays out, and which brother she ends up with.
