The second official Avengers: Doomsday teaser has been released, focusing on another superhero turned father, Thor.
This teaser comes a week after the first teaser for Doomsday, which featured Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers in paternal form and was shown during previews for Avatar: Fire and Ash. This Thor-centered teaser, where Chris Hemsworth reprises his role once again, focuses on him praying to his father, the Norse god Odin, to keep his adopted daughter Love safe as he prepares to take on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
This teaser has the peaceful, nature-scape tone similar to the Steve Rogers preview. Thor is also shown to be tucking Love, who is played by Hemsworth’s daughter India, into bed and kissing her on the forehead. Love, who first appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder, is the child of the villain Gorr the God Butcher, who is on a quest to seek revenge on every God for his daughter’s death. However, before his own death, Gorr decides to give up his quest and instead resurrects Love before he passes. Thor promises to raise Love as if she were his own after Gorr makes him. Love then joins Thor and even wields his hammer, Stormbreaker.
Fans believe that Doomsday and Secret Wars could be Hemsworth’s last appearance as Thor in the MCU, as he is among the last standing of the original Avengers, and Hemsworth’s own wording on a tribute post that he shared early this year, dedicated to the character that he has portrayed for more than fifteen years. Whatever Thor’s ending may be, Hemsworth has done an excellent job of bringing the character to life.
