The Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards are right around the corner. The awards honor both movies and television in multiple categories. The nominations for best stunts are out with a slew of movies and television shows, with a lot of superhero media making the cut.
The superhero movie that grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide is Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie is full of stunts and action so it is no surprise that it received a nomination. Denis Villeneuve’s action-filled sci-fi thriller Dune: Part 2 was also nominated. According to Collider, the film was deemed this generation’s The Empire Strikes Back.
The Fall Guy also received a nomination which is fitting since it is about a stunt performer played by Ryan Gosling. Gladiator 2, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington, is also nominated. Rounding out the nominations for the best stunts in movies is the musical Wicked.
The stunt nominations for television also start with superheroes. The Prime series The Boys, with an abundance of stunts in every episode, unsurprisingly secured a nomination. Another Prime show is also in the running. Fallout is nominated, and the second season is now in production. The Game of Thrones spin-off prequel, House of the Dragon, was nominated as well. The Batman-based show, The Penguin, received a nom. The last of the television nominations goes to Shōgun, a historical series that won over 15 Emmy Awards.
These action-packed movies and shows rely on stunts to aid in telling their stories.
These shows will be recognized, and winners will be named for Best Stunts during the SAG Awards, which airs February 23 at 8 PM EST.
