The 2018 sequel to the iconic 80s film Predator might have received mixed reactions among fans, but the filmmakers are promoting the movie big time with its recent blu-ray release. Special effects specialist Yuri Everson revealed that the original film had 3 alternate endings showcasing alternate versions of a Predator killer. One ending in particular has one of those killers being an iconic one from the Alien franchise.
In an Instagram post by Yuri Everson, a picture of an older version of Newt from Aliens was revealed to have come back in one of the alternate endings. The character is seen coming out of her pod and also wears a mask that looks similar to a face hugger from the Alien series. However, one of the reasons the scene was cut was because the mask was deemed too face hugger-like, which somewhat contradicts the original Alien series, given that it seems rather hypocritical to have a mask designed in the vein of the antagonists of the franchise.
Despite the fact the scene was cut, it made sense to connect both the Alien and Predator franchise given the crossover history between the two. It seems The Predator was initially going to hint at Alien with a possible cinematic universe between both sci-fi action-horror series. Given the mixed reception of not just The Predator, but also the more recent Alien films, namely Covenant being a disappointment financially, and with die hard fans of the Alien series, the cinematic universe plans for the two to crossover seem pretty unlikely. Only time will tell if there’s another chance to see the Xenomorphs and Predators have an epic clash against one another for fans to enjoy.
