When it rains, it pours. That’s the basis for Force of Nature, a new action thriller starring Mel Gibson (Gibson replaced Bruce Willis for his role) that tells the story of a group of thieves looking to pull off the perfect heist while a hurricane bares down upon them.
Narrative-wise, this premise sounds quite similar to another movie: 2018’s disaster action film The Hurricane Heist. On its surface, that seems rather alright. However, Force of Nature‘s trailer also received harsh criticism for its premise involving white characters fighting a Latino gang in Puerto Rico during a hurricane. The implication: it’s somewhat insensitive to use that location following the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico in 2017. Nevertheless, this is still a work of fiction and, until the final product proves otherwise, is meant meant for entertainment purposes.
The film features an interesting cast including Kate Bosworth (The Devil Has a Name), Emile Hirsch (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and David Zayas (Showtime’s Dexter). The script is written by Cory Miller (The Long Walk Home) and is being directed by Michael Polish (Little Brother of War), with Lionsgate serving as the distributor.
Force of Nature will be released on June 30 via digitally, DVD and Blu-ray. Experience the storm, the action and the will to survive in this new action thriller that’ll be available during the height of the summer.
