According to Variety, The Orchard has acquired North American rights to Thelma, a romantic sci-fi thriller from Norway, helmed by Joachim Trier (Louder Than Bombs, also distributed by The Orchard). Trier co-wrote the script, along with Eskil Vogt. The story centers on a young woman on the cusp of falling in love; she discovers that she has amazing supernatural powers.
The film stars Eili Harboe, Okay Kaya, Ellen Dorrit Petersen, and Henrik Rafaelsen. Producers are Thomas Robsahm, Le Pacte, Snowglobe and Copenhagen Film Fund, Film i Väst, Filmpool Nord and B-Reel. The film is executive produced by Trier, Vogt, and Sigve Endresen of Motlys.
The Orchard executive vice president of film and television, Paul Davidson, said, “Working with Joachim on Louder Than Bombs was a wonderful experience and gave us the opportunity to witness, up close, his unmatched visionary talent and passion for the stories he tells. Thelma represents the next evolution of his growth as a filmmaker and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of that journey.”
