The official trailer for A24’s The Death of Robin Hood has been released, and this time the archer isn’t just stealing from the rich but killing them too.
The Death of Robin Hood reimagines the legend of Robin Hood with much darker aspects, depicting Robin Hood, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, as “having a past marred by crime and murder.” After being wounded during a battle, the archer is taken in by a mysterious woman on an isle, played by Jodie Comer, and, as she heals him, Robin Hood must grapple with the actions of his past.
The feature is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who has helmed projects like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. He recently spoke about his take on Robin Hood with Entertainment Weekly, saying,
He was this murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things and was kind of monstrous. But he’s lived long enough to see this folklore about him created. He’s figuring out how he feels about that, about being portrayed as a hero when he knows what he really was.
On-screen, Jackman and Cromer are joined by Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. Off-screen, Alexander Black, Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, and Jackman will serve as producers. No release date has been confirmed for the feature, but we do know that The Death of Robin Hood will grace our screens later this year.
