The Official Trailer For A24’s ‘Backrooms’ Has Been Released

Chiwetel Ejiofor in 'Backrooms' (2026)

The first official full trailer for A24’s subliminal horror, Backrooms, has been released and depicts Chiwetel Ejiofor battling familiar yet inescapable places. The feature is adapted from Kane Parsons’ YouTube series of the same name, inspired by the internet horror legend ‘The Backrooms,’ which originated on a 4chan thread in early 2019.
The trailer draws inspiration from Parsons’ original YouTube series, like the yellow endless rooms or the VHS footage of those rooms, which is reminiscent of Parsons’ series, which follows a filmmaker who records the backrooms on VHS tape after falling in there by accident. While the film seems to share the same themes as the YouTube series, it diverges plot wise. The trailer, accompanied by the tune of Instupendo’s ‘Six Forty-Seven’, depicts a man, Clark (Ejiofor), who finds a door to an unearthly space in the back of a furniture showroom. He delves deep into the complex, never-ending rooms and reports his discoveries to his therapist (Renate Reinsve). But when Clark goes missing, the therapist must enter these “backrooms” to search for her patient.
The feature is directed by Parsons with a script penned by Westword’s Will Soodik. The cast is rounded out by Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia. The producers include James Wan, Roberto Patino, Shawn Levy, Dan Levin, Osgood Perkins, Peter Chermin, Jenno Topping, Michael Clear, Dan Cohen, Chris Ferguson, and Kori Adelson.
Everything must go on May 29th to see Backrooms in theaters. Watch the full official trailer below.
