God’s Promise, 1993.
Cameron Post (Chloe Grace Moretz) stands outside of the tranquil, even heavenly, campus that is God’s Promise. At first glance, one may even feel intrigued and excited about a visit to the location, but soon enough, we see what really lies behind the doors when one is accepted as a “disciple.”
Cameron is sent to be “cured” at the gay conversion center after she’s caught with another girl on prom night. There, she is supposed to change her sinful ways and become an upstanding member of Christian faith. As we all know, though, that certainly is not how things work when it comes to sexual preference.
Even though Cameron is essentially trapped by her family’s beliefs as well as the center’s, she find solace in friends and fellow members of the LGBT+ community including the stoner and amputee, Jane (Sasha Lane) and “Lakota Two Spirit,” Adam (Forrest Goodluck). Together, they stay sane and help each other through the constant hatred toward their true selves.
Will Cameron and her friends be able to come out of their experience the same, or will the wrath of Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and “cured” Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr. ) scare the teenagers into submission?
The film is set for theatrical release on August 3, 2018.
