Star Wars Celebration took place over the weekend giving attendees a look at plenty of new films, shows, books, and even action figures from a galaxy far far away. Among these includes a first glimpse at footage of the new upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Last time audiences saw Mando and Grogu, the two had thwarted Moff Gideon once and for all, reclaiming the planet of Mandalore for their rightful inhabitants. After their success, the two managed to find a quiet plot of land and live happily together.
While the footage has not been revealed to those not at Celebration, attendees were able to get the word out about what was shown of the movie there. Within the footage was a look at Rotta the Hutt, who was confirmed to not only appear in the film, but was also stated to be played by Jeremy Allen White.
Rotta The Hutt first appeared back in the theatrically released Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film. The infant son of Jabba the Hutt, Rotta had to be rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano before he could be used as an object of political favor by the nefarious Count Dooku. Reports coming out of Celebration state that Rotta himself is seen in the pits of an arena, serving as a gladiator for the entertainment of others.
Within what was shown to fans, as well, was the arrival of a new character played by Sci-Fi legend Sigourney Weaver. From Alien to Avatar, Weaver has appeared in a variety of films from the genre, but this is her first venture into Star Wars.
As Hollywood Reporter notes, some of the footage depicted Weaver’s character reminding Mando that it’s she that he works for, possibly alluding to Mando’s ongoing, albeit shaky, ties to the still young New Republic that was installed after the fall of the Galactic Empire.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters 2026.
