The highly anticipated The Lego Batman Movie is adding to its already star-studded voice cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rosario Dawson has been announced as the voice of Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham City’s Police Commissioner James Gordon, who eventually joins forces with Batman and Robin to fight crime as Batgirl.
Dawson (Sin City) will work alongside Will Arnett, reprising his Batman role from the 2014 blockbuster hit The Lego Movie. Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) is the voice of loyal sidekick Robin, with Zach Galifianakis (Birdman) as the villainous Joker.
Dawson is a long-time comic book fan, having co-created the comic book series Occult Crimes Taskforce. She’s also tackled the genre on screen, co-starring in Netflix’s The Daredevil as Claire Temple/The Night Nurse, a role she’ll reprise in the upcoming series Luke Cage, and as the voice of Wonder Woman in DC’s Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.
The Lego Batman Movie will be directed by Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on the original Lego Movie, from a script by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith. Warner Bros. is aiming for a February 10, 2017 release.
