The IP List 2025, A Compilation Of Journalistic Material Available For Option As Film Adaptations, Releases Online

The IP List 2025, a compilation of journalistic works from underrepresented newsrooms and reporters that is available for option as film adaptations, has been released, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Created by journalist and editor Christine McLaren as part of PopShift, a project formed by the non-profit think tank Pathos Labs, developed with guidance from an advisory committee of journalism and Hollywood industry leaders, and supported by the Nielsen Foundation. The IP List 2025 comprises a curated selection of long-form articles, books, and podcast series deemed ideal for adaptation.

McLaren spoke about the list in a statement, saying, “Some of the most powerful film and television content is adapted from journalistic reporting. But these deals are mostly reserved for large legacy publications…This inequitable distribution of opportunities is not just failing journalism — it’s failing the entertainment industry too. I am honored to launch The IP List 2025 as a first step toward changing that and showing just how much the journalism industry as a whole, in all its richness and diversity, has to offer Hollywood.”

The executive director of Pathos Labs, Romain Vakilitabar, added to this, saying: “I’ve had many conversations with production companies and studios who, knowing the importance of good IP, were trying to find new pathways to find the undiscovered gems…We’re excited to be widening that pool. And especially in a way that provides incredible journalists added attention to their incredible stories.”

This will be PopShift’s second IP pilot after the release of its debut list last year, which featured fictional books from underrepresented authors.
