The Interview is completing its tour of digital digital distribution this Saturday when the controversial comedy will become available to stream on Netflix.
After a simultaneous release in limited theaters and on digital distribution platforms Christmas Day, Sony quickly released the movie through cable and satellite on-demand services. The film was a success on digital platforms, topping a variety of services’ rental charts and grossing a combined $46 million after taking ticket sales into account.
The National Association of Theater Owners recently announced that the movie lost Sony $30 million, since the studio only took 60 percent of that revenue. Sony quickly making the movie available on the popular streaming service should help soften that blow, though details around the deal were not disclosed. The movie will release on Blu-Ray and DVD February 17.
