Spike Lee‘s newest joint Da 5 Bloods hits streaming today and the highly anticipated film that follows a group of aging Vietnam War veterans who return to the country in search of treasure they buried while stationed there has already received critical acclaim. Along with it’s unique plot, the casting of one of it’s actors tells a great story in it’s own right.
According to CNN, Levius was working as a travel writer in Thailand after being invited for a four-day group press trip out of London. As fate would have it, Levius would run into one of his icons, Spike Lee, and soon found himself cast after having lengthy conversations with the insightful and bold filmmaker. Levius cackles at the absurdity of the events that transpired in his life, “If someone would have told me that I would travel to Thailand in the spring of 2019 and leave three months later having worked on a Spike Lee film with Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, I would’ve cackled at the absurdity.”
What was supposed to be a four day trip turned into a two month excursion into the world of filmmaking and if the reviews are to be believed, there is not a single bad performance from the all star cast, hinting at a promising career for Levius. The phrase “truth is stranger than fiction” does not begin to explain this story, but it is a hopeful and feel good story for any movie fan and actor out there.
