Disney has released the first trailer for the long-anticipated Mary Poppins Returns, and, if we don’t sound too cheeky, it looks just as wonderful and magical as the first.
After the Banks children have grown up and have had children of their own, they seem to have forgotten just how much magic and joy there can be in the world that surrounds them. Michael Banks (Ben Wishaw), in fact, has children of his own, and after the terribly unfortunate loss of his wife, Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) returns to help the new generation of children as well as Michael and Jane (Emily Mortimer) through their struggles.
The trailer is filled with the classic wonder of the original film including hand-drawn, 2D animations, interesting and colorful characters, both new and familiar, new songs and dances, and a certain spark that, arguably, no other film franchise has ever been able to achieve.
Other cast members include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Dick Van Dyke, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and many more.
The Rob Marshall-directed film is set for theatrical release on December 19, 2018.
