The Extended Edition Of ‘Backrooms’ Includes 15 Minutes Of New Footage

Renate Reinsve in Kane Parsons' 'Backrooms' (2026)

A24 is re-releasing their hit horror film Backrooms in theaters, now with brand new footage. Over the July 4th holiday, the film will be re-released as Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, as per AMC’s website. The new cut of the film will include 15 extra minutes of new footage.

Backrooms was directed by Kane Parsons, and was his first major feature. Parsons was known for creating the original ‘Backrooms’ short films on YouTube based on the popular internet creepypasta. The film has grossed over $300 million at the global box office on a mere $10 million budget. It has already become A24’s highest-grossing film to date. The films is currently still in theaters, so this new cut may play alongside the standard version of the film.

Backrooms released a few weeks after another popular indie horror film, Obsession, and together they have made one unforgettable summer for horror. The two films have made over $700 million combined at the box office, and both were made by young filmmakers on miniscule budgets. Both films are still playing in theaters over a month later. Obsession was directed by Curry Barker for under $1 million and was bought by Focus Features for $15 million.

The re-release of Backrooms comes at one of the busiest time of the year for movies. July is jam-packed with massive tent pole films, with Minions & MonstersMoanaEvil Dead BurnThe Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day being some of the most notable. Whether there is still room for Backrooms as we head into the busy summer season remains to be seen, but it is safe to say that theaters will be filled this season.
