The Dinobots Are In ‘Transformers 4: Age of Extinction’

9/3 UPDATE:

The title of the next Transformers movie was officially unveiled today, along with the first teaser poster for the new film:

We’re not sure if Paramount had intended to announce the title just yet since they did register four domain names (see below), a trick usually employed to try to throw fans and media off the scent. But with a producer confirming the inclusion of the Dinobots (also below), the internet deduced the true title pretty quickly.

Here’s our ORIGINAL STORY:

Yes, really, and it’s been confirmed by series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in an interview with the Beijing News. The Dinobots, robots that transform into mechanical dinosaur analogs rather than the usual assortment of planes, trains, and automobiles, will be in Transformers 4. The news follows longstanding suspicion that the Autobot bruisers would be included.

But that’s not all. Several new domain names have been registered by the same company that handled things for the third installment, including most noticeably the potential title Transformers: Age of Extinction. Other titles include Transformers: Last StandTransformers: Apocalypse, and Transformers: Future Cast. Apocalypse has some merit, we suppose, but the others, aside from just seeming silly, are too reminiscent of some other titles (particularly Last Stand) Additionally, Hasbro, who owns the rights to the toy franchise, registered new trademarks that include the name Age of Extinction.

Transformers: Age of Extinction, or whatever the this entry ends up being called, will open something of a new chapter for the Transformers movies. Shia LaBeouf is out, replaced in the leading role by Mark Wahlberg. Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, and Kelsey Grammar also star. It’s still directed by Michael Bay, and is expected to hit theaters next June.
