The teaser for The Carpenter’s Son, released yesterday by Magnolia Pictures, established the tone of the upcoming movie through brief, jarring imagery.
Nicholas Cage, who stars as “the Carpenter”, appears tormented amidst hellish landscapes and a possessed FKA Twigs (whose role is described simply as “Mother”). The film also stars Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) as “the Boy” and Isla Johnson (The Queen’s Gambit).
Writer and director Lotfy Nathan drew inspiration for the film from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which is an early Church non-canonical text that details Jesus’ childhood and how he developed an understanding of his capacity for miracles through mischievous experimentation. Nathan’s plot adapts the text to the horror genre, following “the Boy” as he rebels against “the Carpenter” and discovers both his divine powers and external horrors that threaten him and his family.
Magnolia Pictures co-CEOS Eammon Bowles and Dori Begley said in a statement: “With The Carpenter’s Son, Lotfy Nathan has delivered a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations at every turn.”
The producers are as follows: Julie Viez for Cinenovo, with Alex Hughes and Riccardo Maddalosso for Spacemaker, and Cage at Saturn Films. David Levine and Nick Shumaker executive produced for Anonymous Content with Noëmie Devide for Goodfellas, Jennifer Venditti, Nathan and Theo Vieljeux. Eugene Kotlyarenko executive produced for Spacemaker.
The Carpenter’s Son is set for a Fall 2025 release.
