The Batman director Matt Reeves addressed Robert Pattinson’s chances of being the Batman of the DCU. James Gunn, DC Studios’ creative chief, recently shared that he has contemplated the idea of including Pattinson’s Batman in the shared universe. This came after he said Pattinson would not appear in the DCU’s upcoming movies, as Reeves did not want to merge the franchises.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz, Reeves seemed more open-minded about having Pattinson’s Batman appear in the DCU. His answer was not definitive, however, the director stating that it depends on “whether or not it makes sense” leaves room for the possibility of the worlds colliding. Part II of The Batman was recently delayed to a 2027 release, but Reeves is still intent on starting production in 2025. Check out Reeves’ full quote here.
Based on Reeves’ comments, there is still a chance Pattinson could appear in James Gunn’s universe as Batman. It seems the keys for that to happen are if it would make sense for the universes to connect, and if Reeves’ vision of The Batman franchise was completed.
The recent project to come out of The Batman franchise is The Penguin, which follows the nightclub owner Oz Cobb and his rise to power after the events of The Batman. Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a TV Limited Series, Anthology Series, or TV Movie for his performance as Oz Cobb.
