A24’s The Backrooms has begun to gather more headliners. The film just cast Finn Bennett, Mark Duplass, Avan Jogia, and Lukita Maxwell.
The Backrooms is a found-footage horror movie based on the internet sensation of the same name. The Backrooms themselves are a series of unending rooms that look almost familiar, with very little chance of escape for those unlucky enough to be stuck there.
The new talents join Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, who have already been cast in the film.
The director of the film, Kane Parsons, has dabbled in the topic of The Backrooms extensively. Under the username Kane Pixels on YouTube, Parsons has created many series and projects on The Backrooms, as well as other topics in the same vein.
Hollywood Reporter notes that Parsons is now the youngest director to ever work for A24, with his first feature film underway at only 20 years old. He will also be working on the story for the film, on top of directing.
Looking specifically at the new talents, Bennett appeared in Alex Garland’s Warfare earlier this year and is also slated to appear in the HBO series A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms next year. Duplass has starred in films like Creep and Zero Dark Thirty. Jogia has already dabbled in the realm of horror, between movies like Zombieland: Double Tap and Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, and Maxwell had a role in Blumhouse’s Afraid.
