‘The Apprentice’ Struggling To Gain U.S. Distribution

While the upcoming film The Apprentice has gained distribution in other territories, it’s facing some trouble within the United States. With the struggle it’s facing, some within the industry have spoken about their qualms with it.

The Apprentice follows the young life of Donald Trump, the businessman turned 45th President of the United States. Specifically, it focuses on Trump building his reputation and making a name for himself as a businessman. Sebastian Stan plays Trump in the film, with Maria Bakalova playing his wife Ivanka Trump, as well as Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, the mentor to Trump in his early days. The film itself has come into some controversy, due to the nature of the content on display. As Deadline reports, the film depicts a rape scene between Stan’s Trump and Bakalova’s Ivanka, which resulted in retaliation from Trump’s legal team against the film.

Bill Maher, who has his talk show Real Time With Bill Maher, gave his thoughts on the movie struggling to gain an audience in the US. Maher, never shying away from politics on his show, has been open about his distaste towards the former President. When talking about the film not getting a distribution company yet, Maher said, “First he intimidates the congresspeople…then he intimidates juries, and now he’s intimidating THIS town? Oy.”

Maher also states that he has confidence in the film in terms of its quality and that he finds it irritating that no deals have been able to be completed yet. For more updates, stay with us here.
