‘The Angry Birds Movie 3’ Flies Off into Production

In a recent blog post and teaser video, Rovio, Sega, and Prime Focus revealed that The Angry Birds Movie 3 is now in production. While there are no hints of the plot, they announced a few other details.

First, Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad will return to the cast! Sudeikis of Ted Lasso fame will once voice Red—and Gad of Frozen popularity will reprise his role as Chuck. According to Deadline, more casting news will be coming soon.

We also know that past team members behind the first two Angry Birds films will work on the third installment. John Rice (Angry Birds 2 co-director) will direct, while Thurop Van Orman (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack creator and Angry Birds 2 director) will pen the script. Also, DNEG Animation (The Garfield Movie, Nimona) will provide additional animation.

The Angry Birds Movie 1 and 2 grossed $500 million worldwide, becoming commercial hits; the third installment hopes to follow suit.

The Angry Birds Movie 3 is the latest in a long series of video game film adaptations to move into production. However, the first Angry Birds Movie was released in 2016, before gaming movies were trendy in the industry, so there is certainly more skin in the game for this nostalgiac franchise. Whether or not this leads to success is unknown at the time.
